About the Project:
This conceptual project reimagines an existing board game with a new theme. I selected the board game Pay Day for a rebrand. PayDay is known for teaching players personal finance skills such as purchasing assets, saving, and managing expenses.
How to Play:
Throughout the month, players navigate financial decisions such as paying bills, choosing whether to incur credit card debt, buying businesses, and covering expenses for entertainment. In the game, each player takes turns rolling the dice to find out how many spaces they move on the calendar. For example, rolling a five means moving from Wednesday the 17th to Monday the 22nd. Each calendar space has a situation that player must navigate if they land on that spot. The objective is to have the highest net worth by the end of the month to win the game.
I do not own the rights to PayDay. This project is not intended for sale, but it is created only for educational purposes.
The Challenge:
Targeting the Generation Z as the primary demographic, I developed Pay Day: Gen Z Edition. This specialized version is made to resonate with the aesthetic preferences and financial realities of individuals born between 1997-2012.
The Result:
The game includes popular design elements characteristic of Gen Z, such as organic blobs, squiggles, wonky checkered patterns, and pastel colors. Since Gen Z tends to prefer digital financial transactions, I conceptualized a play credit card as a component of the game. Moreover, I included items, events, and financial opportunities that resonate with a Gen Z player, such as owning a boba tea shop or going thrifting.
